3D Model Viewer

Open a GLB, glTF, STL or OBJ file in your browser to inspect it — triangle count, mesh count and real-world size, alongside the model itself.

What it does

3D Model Viewer rewrites the model into another container. The vertices, faces and normals are carried across unchanged — this is a re-encode of the same geometry, not a re-modelling of it, so the shape you get out is the shape you put in.

When you need it

Almost always because the next piece of software only reads one format: a slicer that wants STL, a browser or AR viewer that wants GLB, an older 3D application that only ever learned OBJ.

Limits and caveats

What each format can carry differs, and that is where things go missing: STL holds geometry only, so colours and materials do not survive it, and OBJ keeps materials in a separate .mtl that a dropped file does not include. Geometry always survives; appearance often does not. Everything happens in your browser, so the file never leaves your device.

How to 3d model viewer

  1. Drop a model — GLB, glTF, STL or OBJ.
  2. Drag to rotate, scroll to zoom.
  3. Read the triangle count and the bounding box next to it.

Frequently asked questions

Why does the size matter?
Because printing at the wrong scale is the most common 3D complaint, and it is invisible until the slicer tells you. GLB measures in metres; STL and OBJ carry no unit at all and are read as millimetres by convention. A model that arrives 1000x too small crossed that gap.
Why does the triangle count matter?
It decides whether a model is usable on the web. Past a few hundred thousand triangles a page starts to stutter on a phone, whatever the file size says.
Do my files get uploaded?
No. This tool runs entirely in your browser, so the file never leaves your device.
